This was my first collaboration with WithWings. They are a company whose work I have loved for a long time, so to come into the mix and bring some lighting ideas on board was a great and rewarding experience.
The company developed the show over one week in February and two further weeks in June. We previewed at the beautiful Wiltons Music Hall in London before a five star run at Bedlam at the Fringe.

This was an enormously enjoyable project to work on - a one-woman show about a serious but heartwarming topic, acted and co-written by the very person the play was about. It was a lovely opportunity to work with Director Steven Grihault for the first time, as well as Video Deisgner Eva Auster and Stage Manager Sophie Johnson. As well as designing a rig that was responsive to the clean and white set, quirky venue beam positions and plot-dependent video design, I also designed and implemented the cueing system which allowed the stage manager to fire Video, Sound and LX from one QLab file, with the Musical Director firing backing and click tracks from the same laptop via a MIDI Go. After pre-programming it in rehearsals, it worked like a dream in tech.

This was my final show at RADA. Loveplay is set in a single location over ten time periods, from 30 AD to 2001 AD. The set was simply five flats onstage which spun on various axes, and a full white, backlit cyc stretched accross the back of the stage. This presented a number of challenges: creating distinct looks for each scene, utilising the cyc tastefully yet effectively, keeping light off the cyc whilst keeping the actors meticulously lit accross the stage (at the director's insistence). In the end the result was good, and received well by the director. Some of the scenes were better and more distinct than others, but for all scenes the lighting played its part in creating the desired mood and tone.

I was asked to design the lighting for the Press Launch preceeding Bat Out Of Hell’s return to the West End. The American Church had a number of restricting factors – no full blackout, not a lot of hard power and no rigging positions to name a few, but we created a custom stage look using kit and ideas which were faithful to the stage production. All kit was supplied by PRG.

This was my first collaboration with New Sussex Opera and with Director Paul Higgins. This hitherto unrecorded opera was a challenging light given the limited resources in our first venue (a town hall without rigging, and with white walls) and a limited budget. The show then transferred for a single night at Eastbourne’s Devonshire Park Theatre, Cadogan Hall and Saffron Hall.
